Most suppliers to the fashion industry in South Africa, import the majority of their products, but when Leon Buhr started Equator – the Belt Factory™ in 2001, his goals were job creation and exports

While Equator – the Belt Factory™ does import, warehouse and distributes more than 2 million belts annually, their new factory in Pinetown has the capacity to manufacture more than a million belts, making it probably the largest belt manufacturer on the continent.

Equator – the Belt Factory™ is the first member of the local fashion supply industry to achieve a Five Star Green Star Certification for Existing Building Performance from the Green Building Council of South Africa and the fourth industrial building in South Africa to achieve this.

With the move to the factory in Pinetown, the team embarked on a new journey, sustainablility.

Leon shares with us how Equator – the Belt Factory™ achieved a Five Star Green Star Certification, only the fourth industrial building in South Africa to achieve this.
